Adventures in Coffee

So remember this morning when I said I needed coffee?Well, that turned out to be more difficult than anticipated.

Right before I was about to leave for work, I got a pone call from my co-worker reminding me of something terrible.

We are all out of Keurig cups at the office. The horror!

So, I set out to find us a good cup of coffee from the coffee shop down the street. Ie- Starbucks.

Well, if any of you have ever tried to get in line at Starbucks at 8am on a weekday morning then I bet you can guess what kind of line we were working with today.

Granted, I could have just gone in. But it was way too cold out for that noise.

So I drove up the street a ways to the other Starbucks location and, wouldn’t you know it, that line was clear around the building. Needless to say, at this point I was feeling ready to go coffee-less.

But then a wonderful thing happened.

I pulled up into the itty, bitty Scooter’s drive through window and low and behold- no line. None.

Thank the Lord.

So this little lady did end up getting her coffee after all.

Disaster averted.

Well I’m about to wrap things up around these parts and head to the gym for my favorite dinner time workout! On tonight’s agenda is a chest and triceps strength workout + the squats I didn’t end up getting to last night.

Then I’m feeling like a little of that Stair Masteraction from yesterday might be necessary- have a great night!

Some Awesome Things are Happening

Good morning! How is everyone doing on this gorgeous, albeit very chilly Tuesday? Hopefully your day got off to a great start- I am personally dying for a cup of coffee at the moment, but I will get to that shortly.

Firs things first, let’s back up a little to a couple pretty cool things that happened yesterday.

Check this out.

As of yesterday morning, I was at just over 1,000 views on the old blog here.

That’s just over 1,000 views in a little over 2 weeks! (Or 16 days, if you want to get technical 😉 )

Thank you, from the very bottom of this self proclaimed blogger’s heart, guys. I won’t lie, it’s really pretty nerve wracking to start one of these bad boys and then try and self promote it through very limited channels (aka-sorry for the FB spam. I gotta get it out there somehow)- but at least some of you are reading it, and that is really exciting for me.

Thank you again!

So another exciting thing from yesterday- as part of my job, I regularly go out into the community and interview local business owners, do highlights on non-profits, ect. In my 6 months working for the magazine, I’ve been very fortunate to get to do some pretty incredible interviews.

Back in October, I wrote a story on a non-profit called the Erin is Hope Foundation that totally rocked my world and changed my heart.

In November, I got to interview Gregg Marshal, the Wichita State men’s basketball coach that led the team to the Final Four last spring.  That was pretty stellar.

Yesterday, I got to go back to my high school and do an interview there for their upcoming article. I’ve gotta tell you guys…that was really pretty cool. You sort of forget how far you’ve actually come until you take the time to look back.

I learned so much in my 12+ years at that school (pre-k through 12th grade, whaaaaat?) and to be able to go back and walk the halls as a (somewhat) grown woman, and a working woman no less- that was really neat.

Needless to say, I’m looking forward to writing that article!

Okay, so last night I headed to the gym for a legs and booty workout around 6pm. This is a super solid time to workout, in case you were wondering. Most people are at home eating dinner- lots of open machines. 😉

My strength workout ran me about 40 minutes, and I tagged on 50 minutes of stair master glory after that.

I tried a mix of different speeds, positions and intervals this time and it made for one killer burn. Try this one on for size if you’re getting bored with your old “hop on the treadmill and run a mile” routine this winter!

It’s a great one! (Yes..I made a workout that has “boredom” misspelled. Truthfully, I saw it before I saved it, thought briefly about correcting it and for some reason instead thought “Nah- it’s cool.” Oooof.)

But hey, did anyone notice that it’s a 50 minute workout? That’s right- I succeeded in adding in my extra 5 minutes again this week!

After my workout, I wasn’t feeling overly hungry and was a little pressed for time. I knew I needed something to refuel my muscles, and I needed to do it within the hour I finished my workout in. The solution?

Vanilla Almond Protein Shake!

—I had to use the big blender because my mini blender’s lid has gone MIA, which I figured out a little late in the game.

In the shake:

-1 cup unsweetened coconut/almond milk

-5 almonds

-1 small banana

-1/2 scoop VCORE protein powder(—this stuff tastes like a cupcake. Yum.)

-1/2 a package of no sugar added cocoa mix (AKA- the sneaky secret ingredient)

It hit the spot, filled me up AND also succeeded in making me freeze my tush off.

Oof. (<—- I love this expression. It really says it all. I definitely picked it up from reading Courtney’s blog. She’s stinkin adorable!)

Okay, that’s it for me this morning. Like I said- I need my coffee! But thank you all so much again for reading, following, sharing, commenting (I see you, mom and dad) and all the other awesome things you’ve done to support me. It means a heck of a lot!

A Sunday Setup and a Confession

Hello again! Long time no see- 🙂 How was everyone’s weekend? Hopefully they were stellar!

Mine was actually pretty low key, but I still feel like it flew by and I was constantly doing something…it was weird.

Friday after work, I hit the gym for a quick shoulders and calves circuit and finished up with 40 minutes on the stair master.

I’m telling you, that thing is efficient.

(Again, I almost posted a gym selfie here…but let’s face it, I’m just not ready.)

Speaking of workouts, and the awesome new kicks I have on in the gym-selfie-that-would-have-been, please- Check out these beauties.

I’m missing the pair of Asics running shoes that I have because…well, I’m not really sure where they are.

But still.

These are in order from oldest to newest. Make no mistake, none of these are any older than 2 years. And the 2 newest pairs were bought approximately a month apart.

I might have a problem?

Saturday was spent getting organized and going shopping with my coworker for our white elephant Christmas gifts for our staff party this Wednesday.

We went to a super cute local store out in Andover called Pink Boa– both of us found some great stuff!

Also on Saturday, some very exciting things happened.

My parents and I finally decorated the tree! Woop!

 (Before- naked tree.)

And you can’t decorate a tree without a little holiday drink, right?

 (The tree is still naked.)

On a side note, I love our fireplace. Especially when its lit. 🙂

Aaaaaaand here it is! Completed tree, fire place-the works. It certainly feels nice and festive over here!

On Saturday night, Shane and I had a little get together with some friends to play some games and have a small gift exchange. His weekend TV show co-host was our hostess, and the party was a blast- as her parties always are!

We played Catch Phrase and Heads Up (SO fun, and its an app so its super easy to get! So go get it.) and one of our friends brought these adorable little cupcakes.

How cute are those?

On another side note, while I was getting ready on Saturday night a thought crossed my mind that since it is the Christmas season and all, maybe I’d share some of my favorite bath time products on here as sort of a “Bath Time Gift Guide” of sorts.

You’ll have to excuse the fact that there are only 2 items. My “bath time” ritual is limited.

Fitbiebride Bath Time Gift Guide

  • This Tree Hut Shea Shea Sugar Body Scrub. This stuff is amazing. I really love the Brazilian Nut scent (pictured below)- it smells like coffee beans and gives you that great “wake up, you’re rubbing freshly ground coffee beans on your legs” feeling that I know we all want first thing in the morning. 😉

I also really like the Mango scent. Rub a quarter sized amount on your legs, let it sit for 30 or so seconds and rinse off just before shaving your legs. This sugar scrub will make your skin feel so soft. It’s unreal.

  • Next up is this amazing Ahava Dead Sea Minerals gift set.  This stuff is awesome. My future mother-in-law bought it for me last Christmas and it lasts forever. It also smells wonderful and does truly miraculous things for skin, especially in the winter.  This gift set comes with body lotion, hand cream and foot cream. The lotion is super creamy and light, not greasy at all and has a wonderfully refreshing scent they call “Water”.

It’s a winner.

Alllrighty, since its Sunday night I figured I’d go ahead with a Sunday Setup for the week.

But first, I have a confession to make.

Truthfully, I’ve been feeling just sort of blah and really out of my element this past week. I feel like I slacked on my workouts, and because of that I also feel like I’ve slacked on my health challenge (oof). Not only that, but I also haven’t tried a new recipe yet. (double oooof).

So that being said, I just really want to start fresh and hit them all super hard this week.

The program that I’ve been doing has me doing workouts 6 days a week, so naturally my setup will have 6 days accounted for!

Monday– Legs/glutes/abs + cardio

Tuesday– Chest/triceps + cardio

Wednesday– 45 min. HITT on treadmill

Thursday– Back/biceps/abs + cardio

Friday– Shoulders/calves + cardio

Saturday- 20 min. HITT + 40 min. 10k training

Sunday– rest/yoga

Welp, that’ll about do it for me tonight folks! I have to get up early tomorrow and I was banking on hitting the gym in the a.m. so I can do a little Christmas shopping after work. 🙂

I also get to go on a very exciting interview for work tomorrow and I have a little more preparing to do for that- catch ya later!

Experiments and a New Workout

Well hello there! How’s everyone’s Tuesday going? Great?

I’m experimenting a little with scheduling posts, so I thought I’d try and schedule a post I typed up last night to go out this afternoon.

In short, I have another workout for you today! Since the last one I shared was a stair master workout, I thought it might be a nice change of pace to work up a treadmill workout for today!

This is a great one, because it’s easy to customize. It runs abou 4 miles, and because the interval are broken into 10 minutes a piece, if you only have 20 minutes, you’ll still squeeze in a solid run!

Please feel free to let me know how these workouts go if you try them! I went ahead and updated the stair master routine into a snazzy “graphic” like the one above for easier access. I plan on putting together a quick circuit workout for later this week, as well.

Catch ya later!
