I Got In!

Hey there gals and guys! How is everyone?

This weekend was so busy that I’ve barely had time to sit down and think, let alone think about typing up a whole post! But I have a few minutes now (which I’ll explain shortly) so I figured why not give you guys a much needed update?

First thing’s first- I had a really great workout last night.

I headed over to the gym around 6:15 and was already into my workout by about 6:20. On the agenda for yesterday- Legs, Shoulders and stairmaster circuit. My leg and shoulder circuit took me about 40 minutes to get through, and boy oh boy were my legs and glutes buuuurning by the end of it! I don’t think I’ve ever had a leg workout where my legs legit felt like jello right afterwards? So that was awesome! My shoulders also got quite the burn, which was a welcome change.

After my lifting was over I hopped on the stairmaster with the intention of doing a 30 minute interval routine- however, when I say my legs felt like jello…I mean I got about 3 minutes into the stairmaster routine and had to call it quites. Yowsa. Crazy business.

So I hopped off the stairmaster and hopped onto the treadmill for a 30 minutes treadmills HITT session that kicked my butt- but was exactly what I needed!

It was most definitely a kick butt, sweaty mess workout for a Monday!

On another note, Dad finished season 2 of The Walking Dead last night and has now progressed to season 3! At this rate, he’ll finish in plenty of time to pick up with the midseason premiere of season 4 happening THIS SUNDAY! I can’t wait!

Okay, so the main reason I have some extra time this afternoon is largely due to this:

Yep, we’re getting hit by a winter storm currently. I keep hearing we’re going to get 5-10 inches, but I’m not sure how true that is.

As of right now, we have about 3. It’s supposed to snow all through tonight, however, and maybe on into tomorrow as well.

Yeeesh. I hope the gym stays open.

No, seriously.

They cleared our parking lot at work around 9, but it quickly filled back in again with snow…so we decided we might want to head out a little early today, and that’s exactly what we did.

Okay, before I go- I have one last thing to share with you guys.

Well…I was getting a whole bunch of twitter follower requests this moring, all from people who seem to have nothing but fitness on the brain. A little confused, I checked my e-mail and didn’t see anything. So, I  hopped on the Fitbloggin’ main website early this morning and…

I GOT IN!

My spark was voted in, and I honestly was so shocked and excited and completely ecstatic that I almost wanted to cry. I have wanted to be apart of the fitness blogger world for so long. I’ve read so many wonderful blogs. I’ve been so inspired.

I’ve read all sorts of things about Fitbloggin from some of my favorite blogs, and I have wanted to go so, so badly.

And now I not only get the chance to go and meet up with some of the amazing people behind my favorite fitness blogs (some of them are super involved, eve working as Fitbloggin’s twitter maven–oh, heyyyy Monica) but I get to go speak to these amazing people, and share a story that I never thought I would share with anyone- let alone be proud of and excited about.

Thank you guys so, so much…from the very bottom of my heart. This is a huge opportunity for me and this little blog here, and I just can’t believe it.

Thank you for helping me make some of my fitness blogger dreams come true!

I get to go to Savannah, guys! WHAT?

I feel so inspired, and so excited…and also proud. I can’t wait to make my presentation, share my journey, and get to experience these amazing 2 days with so many like-minded people!

The support thus far has already been overwhelming. I firmly believe fitness enthusiasts and healthy living bloggers have one of the most uplifting, inspiring and supportive communities around.

Thank you again, to everyone who voted for my Spark! I seriously can’t thank you enough- but I promise I’ll try and find some way to do so!

Sunday Set Up on a Monday

Happy Monday!

Did anyone else’s weekend just zoom by? Mine flew- I guess I was busier than I thought?

Friday night, Shane and I stayed in and watched Fast and Furious 6. It was definitely bitter sweet- knowing they’ll have to continue on without Paul Walker is actually really sad. He seemed like a pretty great guy, and I know his presence will be missed.

On a happier note, that movie really is a solid one. It has a good cast, great special effects and a story line that’s pretty hard to hate. 😉 In all seriousness, it’s a very entertaining movie that Shane and I are both huge fans of. From what I understand, a portion of the proceeds from purchasing the DVD go towards Paul Walker’s charity, Reach Out World Wide.

Even if you aren’t a big F&F fan like we are, the movie is worth purchasing if only for that reason.

For those that want to know a little bit more about the charity, here is some verbage from it’s “About” Page:

While part of a relief team responding to the massive earthquakes that devastated Haiti on January 12, 2010; Actor/Producer Paul Walker saw a gap between the availability of skilled resources and the requirement for such personnel in post-disaster situations. Following the trip he contacted a group of his friends to assist him in forming ROWW with the purpose of filling this unmet need.

ROWW is a network of committed professionals with first responder skill-set (including project management, logistics, heavy equipment operation, EMT, paramedic, firefighting, and healthcare, etc). The volunteers provide their expertise when disasters strike and augment local resources with the goal of accelerating relief efforts on a worldwide basis. ROWW has developed Standard Operating Procedures that facilitate arriving quickly, clearing access, providing basic necessities and medical assistance to ease the survivors’ pain and bringing hope in the bleakest of circumstances.

 

Like I said, Paul Walker seemed like a great guy. I pray that his legacy can be extended.

Okay, on another, much lighter note- Shane and I discovered a new tasty treat in the organic section of Dillon’s on Friday…

Guys, this stuff is delicious. It’s light and airy, light on calories and big on flavor. We got the theatre butter flavor (it wasn’t buttery at all, but instead had a great nutty flavor that was awesome) and we both gave it 2 thumbs up. (I’m gonna try the cracked black pepper flavor next time!)

And the best part? It’s made with my favorite secret health food!

On Saturday, my mom and I had an appointment with our florist for the wedding. We got all ready, headed over there, got out of the car and- nothing. It was closed. Apparently, there was a miscommunication?

So my mom and I decided to go shopping for Christmas presents instead.

This also didn’t happen. One look at the beyond crazy parking lots everywhere and we were down for the count.

 

Yeesh.

 

What we did end up doing was going to a local interior design store to check out some great local artists. Our good family friend was there showing her paintings, and my future sister-in-law and her husband were also there.

They take gorgeous photos, make hand bound note books, pretty boxes made of wood flooring and more amazing hand made items. They’re all gorgeous, and well made. I was glad I got to go see it all! (Plus getting to see some of nieces and nephews is always a wonderful thing!)

 

Saturday night, my parents and I decided we wanted to try a new burger place for dinner. It’s called Fizz  and it serves all kinds of delicious burgers and other side items. We chose to share a regular order of their sweet potato fries- which were a hit with me and dad. I also got their 1/4 lb. American Burger.

Late Saturday night, Shane and I went to a 10:30 showing of The Hobbit. I don’t know if it was the fact that it was late, or that we were hungry…or what? I just wasn’t all that excited about it- which is saying something. The Lord of the Rings movies from back in 01, 02 and 03 are 3 of my favorite movies of all time. I don’t really know why this one didn’t excite me at all, but I guess the one from last year didn’t either.

Oh well!

On Sunday afternoon, Shane and I hit some stores for a little Christmas shopping of our own. I can’t tell you where we went exactly, but I did find some great stuff- currently, all my Christmas shopping is done! Woop!

So I know I missed posting on Saturday and Sunday, so this post has sort of been a combo of weekend stuff all smashed up together. I know it’s Monday, but I’d like to go ahead and do a Sunday Set Up anyway!

Here’s what this weeks workouts are gonna look like (I’m starting my program over again, but adding my own spin to it with different exercises and cardio throughout):

Monday- Shoulders/Core + cardio

Tuesday- Legs + Cardio

Wednesday- Back + Cardio

Thursday- Core + Cardio (subject to change due to work schedule)

Friday- Arms/ Legs + Cardio

Saturday- Chest/Back + Cardio

Sunday- Yoga/Rest

Cardio= 45-60 minutes of whatever cardio I’m feeling that day, either stair master, elliptical, cardio DVDs, treadmill or running outdoors

So that’s it for me this afternoon- Alright kiddos, I hope you have a great rest of your Monday! I’m off to fuel up and head to the gym 🙂

Challenge Update Wednesday

Happy Hump Day! Half way through the week already, can you believe it?

So here I sit, preparing a little half-way-through-the-first-week Challenge update! Here are my stats so far:

-Try a new exercise every day: 2 for 2

-Extra 5 minutes added to each workout: 2 for 2

-New recipe: 0 for 2 (planned for Friday)

-Eating Clean: 1 for 2 (I did have a small piece of birthday cake last night- it was delicious.)

-Yoga on rest day: 0 (that won’t happen til Sunday)

-One new exercise class: 0 for 2

I actually think I want to update my challenge goals to include adding 1 morning workout a week– I’ll be checking this of my list tomorrow!

Alrighty, let’s back up a little to last night, shall we?

Workout

As I suspected, we didn’t end up doing a double round of P90x last night. We got a solid workout in doing Chest and Back + some added legs/cardio thrown in to round everything out.

We had a little help during our workout from one of our many sweet nephews. He loves doing push ups- and hanging out with his Uncle Shane.

After our workout, we headed upstairs to join the rest of the crew for birthday barbecue, present and cake. Everything was delicious (especially the BBQ  turkey!). Shane and I also shared a Cherry Coke Zero- a huge vice mine, and it was phenomenal.

Before eating, I got the chance to check out a pretty cool project that my future father-in-law had been working on. Check this out:

Looks like marble, right? Well it isn’t! I’m not 100% sure how the process works, but he made the counter tops, installed them and added under cabinet lighting all by himself.

It really looks gorgeous, doesn’t it?

I was super impressed.

Well I think we’re about to head out in search of our Christmas tree! We still don’t have it yet, which is nuts- we almost always have it up the day after Thanksgiving! Hopefully we find one tonight.

After that, this little lady is going to try and get herself psyched up to go to the gym. I’m really just not feeling it today…I don’t know if it’s the weather or the busy schedule or what.

Oof.

What do you do to amp yourself up to workout when you’re struggling? Any advice would be welcome!

Stair Master City

Does anyone else really dislike the name “Stair Master”? It just makes me flash back to the 80s- I really don’t know why? I much prefer the term “step mill”, because that just sounds a little more intense.

Well whether you call it the step mill, the stair master or the super tall escalator looking thing…no matter! I got a KILLER workout to try out on this thing last night.

It’s really nothing ground breaking or fancy, but it was a great workout so I thought it was worth sharing!

I did 4 sets of 10, in 2 minute intervals.

2 minutes at level 6

2 minutes at level 8

2 minutes at level 10

2 minutes at level 12

2 minutes at level 4, taking the “stairs” 2 at a time

I repeated this sequence another 3 times for a total of 40 minutes- then added a 5 minute cool down. It was definitely a sweaty workout, and I plan on repeating it very soon!
