Coffee Friday, “Selfie” Saturday, Sunday Set Ups

Goooood morning all! How was the weekend? Fantastic? I sure hope so!

Also- Happy St. Patricks Day! I love this holiday. Must be the Irish in me? 😉

This weekend for me was spent mostly getting organized and doing some much needed wedding stuff. Shane left on Saturday morning on a trip to Las Vegas and won’t be home until Wednesday, so the story will be much the same for the rest of the week. I miss him a lot, not to mention that fact I’m insanely jealous, so keeping myself busy is/was the best way to deal with it- or such was my logic going into the weekend.

Friday, I finished up some work and tried to get some things organized going into this week. I also (of course) had to stop for the customary celebratory coffee for Coffee Friday!

Grande Skinny Caramel Macchiato! Yum.

Friday night, I stayed in and ended up going to bed pretty early…I had some fun plans for early the next morning!

Saturday around 7:30a.m., downtown Wichita was overrun with people in green t-shirts, tutus, crazy beards and all sorts of other fun costumes! This girl wasn’t much into the dressing up aspect- but that didn’t stop Rachel (one of my oldest friends, and one of my bridesmaids) from getting in on the crazy sock/tutu train.

She’s a kook. 😉

I met up with Rachel and her sweet roommate Megan bright and early to “warm up” for the annual St. Patricks Day 5k run/walk. It was a little chilly when we first got there, but by the time the race started (we definitely went in the second wave…no 6 minute miles for me, thanks.) the sun was up and it got warm pretty quickly! I also happened to have double layers on, so I was fairly toasty by about mile 2.

It was a lot of fun, and a great way to get up and moving early on a Saturday!

After I went home and showered up, I got in the car with my parents and we headed out to nearby Winfield to watch the matinee performance of my little cousin in his high school’s Broadway variety show. The show was really great- that school packs a whole lotta talent, let me tell you- but unfortunately, I think my cousin was actually coming down with a case of strep throat during the actual performance. His voice was so gone and his throat hurts so badly that he didn’t even get to sing his lead song or dance. I was so bummed, and I felt horrible for him- he looked like he was in a lot of pain and I can relate to having worked so hard on so many rehearsals and then have to bow out of a performance. It’s the worst. 😦

On Saturday night, I met up with a good friend of mine and we had dinner and chatted for almost 3 hours. It was a much needed, very relaxing evening.

Sunday, my dad offered to take me to the Lego Movie. So- duh. We went.

It was every bit as cute as I expected it to be, and I can happily relax now that I’ve finally seen it!

Of course, last night was also Selection Sunday for the upcoming NCAA tournament. I watched to see where all 3 of my state’s teams would land- WSU is a 1 seed in the Midwest region, K-state is a 9 seed in the same region and KU is a 2 seed in the South region.

All I have to say is that if you take one look at the Midwest region you can see that the committee is clearly making a (not so nice) point to WSU here, and Charles Barkley agrees with me.

But I’m not phased- and neither are the Shox. 😉

I have a cross training (maybe kickboxing?) workout as well as a back and biceps session on tap for today after I do some work. Have a fantastic Monday my friends! (Don’t forget to wear some green! 😉 )

A Wedding-full Weekend

Howdy everyone! How was everybody’s weekend? I’m hoping they were all as good as mine were!

Given the fact that a whopping ton happened over the weekend, I’m going to be all in favor of just launching straight in without much small talk- I’m not overly good at it, anyway.

First thing’s first- we got to Kansas City around 7 on Friday night, ate some delicious salads that my Aunt Julie had so thoughtfully picked up for us, and went to bed right around 8:30. We were exhausted.

On Saturday morning, mom and I left around 7:45 to get to my 8:15a.m. dress fitting. Even thought it was wicked early, it didn’t stop me from ooing and awing all over the place at how stunning my dress is. I couldn’t love it any more! I really wish I could spoil it and post a photo but I just can’t bring myself to do that…but hey, only about 3 months now until wedding time so it won’t be much longer anyway!

On Saturday night, I met up with my maid of Honor Amanda and two of my bridesmaids, Justine and Laura, for dinner. I hadn’t gotten to see or talk to any of these girls for so long so it was a really nice time to just sit and catch up. (I’m kicking myself now for not taking photos…what a dumb move!)

I did, however, snap a few photos of Justine’s brand new rescue puppy!

Is he not the cutest? He’s an Australian Shepard mix by the name of Qincey- pictured here wearing the bow tie collar that his mama bought him.

He’s too cute, and so insanely well behaved for only being 5 months! He loves people, too, which is a huge bonus. He was definitely a welcome surprise this weekend! (She had just adopted him on Saturday afternoon.)

Alright, and now to the stuff I know everyone has been dying to hear about….my first Bridal Shower! (every photo I’m about to post was either taken by Amanda, Amanda’s mom or my Aunt Julie…so photo cred should go to them! I was too busy feeling like an absolute princess to snap any photos 😉 )

Is that spread unreal or what? Amanda and her sweet mom Shari went to so much trouble to make everything so perfect and special and I just couldn’t get over how beautiful everything was! (Not to mention delicious…those gluten free chocolate heart cakes were like fudge. So good.) Not to mention there was a wicket Sangria and some amazing Almond Sweet Tea that knocked my socks off. YUM.

And don’t even get me started on the gorgeous flowers or the beautiful grey and white monogram painting that Shari painted especially for us. Pictured above- is that not beautiful? Everything was grey and pink and white and perfect- all the colors that will be at our wedding were incorporated! Seriously, I was floored.

Everything, down to the tiniest detail of the little bows on the party favors, was perfect.

The entire event was so much fun! We started with food, and then when we all moved to sit down by the gifts we played a game. Amanda had sneakily asked Shane a whole bunch of fun questions about us and our relationship, and I had to guess what his answers were- or else suffer the consequences (aka- eat a Mike and Ike).

I will say there were a couple that were a little tricky, but on the whole I’d say I know my man pretty well. 😉 Including his favorite movie of all time (Last Action Hero with Aw-nold) and where our “first date” was (the Chili’s To Go at the Atlanta Airport).  It was so fun to hear his responses and see if they matched up!

While opening gifts, each time I opened a given person’s gift they had to tell a funny story about me or me and Shane. It was so nice to have so many people I love surrounding me and telling fun stories! (Not to mention the gifts we got were crazy awesome- my friends and family are so generous!)

A sweet photo of me, Amanda and one of my bridal attendants, Katie- also a sorority sister of mine.

The group of sorority gals that came! Aren’t they a gorgeous group? 😉

Obligatory Theta “Kiting” photo! (You’ll be seeing a billion more of these, no doubt.) From left to right in this photo are my old roommate Emily, Katie, Amanda, me (doi), Justine and Laura. Looking at this photo makes me all kinds of happy.

Last but not least, me and the MOH! I can’t tell you guys enough how amazing she’s been through everything so far.

The entire afternoon was a huge success, and a fantastic kick off to “bridal season 2014”!  I’ll have to give you all a run down of all the loot that Shane and I got in another post sometime soon- there’s too much good stuff to throw it all in here at the end.

I hope you all had as good a weekend as I did! I have some work to catch up on, some errands to run and a workout to fit in so I’ll be a busy bee for the rest of the day, but be on the look out for that presents post coming up soon!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone! I hope everyone had a blast on New Year’s Eve, stayed safe and had a relaxing New Years Day to recover! I know most of us are back to the grind today, so hopefully everyone was excited and ready for a fresh start in 2014!

Shane and I have been joking all week that January 2nd is sort of like “the ultimate Monday”- ya know how people will often start workout programs or diets up again on Mondays? Well, nearly half of all American’s that go on diets decide to start them right after the New Year. (Hence- the ultimate Monday.)

So theoretically then, NYE is the ultimate Saturday, and yesterday was the ultimate Sunday. See how that works?

Shane and I had a really great New Year! We got to spend our ultimate Saturday night with some great friends that we don’t get to see very often, which is always a lot of fun.

We started out at Old Chicago for dinner, then walked around downtown for a little while before deciding it was pretty much dead due to how “early” it was.

A friend was having a NYE party, and it had been a long time since I had seen her or Shane had, so we decided to head there for a little while.

Check out that amazing spread of treats our hostess had going. Hummus, chex mix, fruit and 4 different kinds of puppy chow.

We rang in the New Year at the party with champagne, balloons and confetti- very classic!

Then we headed over to our friend Anna’s childhood home to keep the party going.

We played several rounds of Mad Gab (girls vs. boys, of course), played music, definitely had a dance party thrown in there at some point and headed to sleep around 4:30.

It was a great night for sure!

I spent yesterday sort of preparing for today, getting organized, doing some Wedding stuff, putting away Christmas presents and the like. It was low key, but I got more done than I figured I would have!

Alright, so today being ultimate Monday is great for a couple reasons.

A- I feel like I’ve let my workout intensity and consistency slide just a bit these last couple weeks, so I’m looking forward to hitting the gym after work today for a solid workout!

B- I’m happy to say that I have logged two healthy meals already today, and I am on track to consuming my gallon of water!

C- My mom bought me a Fitbit Flex band for Christmas, and I just got it up and running last night. Today is my first day getting to try it out at the gym, and I’m really excited to see what all it can do!

For those of you who don’t know what a Fitbit is, it’s a wireless wrist band with a tracker inside that allows to track and manage daily stats: steps taken, water consumed, heart rate, calories burned, distance moved, intense activity minutes, sleep and a host of other things that I admit I haven’t figured out yet!

My mom and I each got one (I got her one, too) and we’ve been playing with them for the past few days to try and figure them out. It’s a learning process, but so far I’m really pleased!

You can wear them all the time- at night and in the shower (because they are water proof), outside. I love mine so far! I’ll be sure to check in again tomorrow and let you guys know what my stats looked like for today. 😉

My gym agenda for tonight looks like a leg workout and 40 minutes of cardio. I’m not sure what I’m feeling for cardio today, but I’m sure the stairmaster will make an appearance at some point!

So I know  you guys know we can’t skip over the inevitable “New Year’s Resolutions” conversation. This is a healthy living blog, after all!

I’m curious to know- what do you guys think? Make them, don’t make them? Are they always bound to fail?

I’m curious because, for myself, I always try and make at least one. This year, however, I have several things that I’m deeming “2014 Goals”, not NYRs- I’m hoping the different wording will help me in my head. (But these shall be revealed in tomorrows Fitness Friday post!)

Have a great night everyone, and try and squeeze in that healthy meal or god workout to start off your ultimate Monday, too!

Weekend Mini Vacation

This weekend was an absolute blast. I don’t know how we managed to fit so much into two days, but we did!

Shane and I got into Kansas City around 8:45 on Friday night. After checking into our hotel, we decided to head down to the plaza to find a little dinner.

We went to the Cheesecake Factory first, but there was a whopping 2 hour wait there…so you know that wasn’t going to happen. We were hungry!

So we kept walking, down to the other end of the plaza where one of our favorite restaurants, Brio is. It was a long wait, too. But the hostess told us that the lounge upstairs was first come, first serve- so we headed up the elevator and….wallah!

We sat out on the screened in balcony, where there were heaters. It was really nice, quiet and romantic- we were the only two people sitting out there for a while.

It had great vies of the Plaza Lights, too.

For dinner, I ordered a sampling of their amazing Bruschetta and Shane ordered pasta. They were both delicious, and so were our festive Martinis! 😉

Saturday mid-morning, we headed back down to the plaza for some shopping and some brunch. The weather was gorgeous, so we took advantage and ate brunch at a place called Gram and Dun– they have an amazing patio, complete with giant heaters and a gas fireplace. The heaters and fireplace, combined with the sun and warmer than average temps made for the perfect brunch.

We each ordered a mimosa, and I had steel cut oatmeal with dried cranberries and Shane ordered a cheese burger.

Later that afternoon, after shopping around a bit and hitting one of my all time favorite stores, we decided to hit up the movie theatre and see the new Disney movie, Frozen.

We both enjoyed it, but I have no idea why anyone would say that it’s better than The Lion King? That’s just craziness.

Saturday night, Shane and I made reservations at Coal Vines for dinner with our friends Amanda and Cameron. (Amanda is that pretty girl who’s also my Maid of Honor, in case you’ve forgotten 😉 )

After much stress, traffic jams, zero parking and a mad dash (literally, at one point we were running) to the restaurant so they wouldn’t give away our reservation- the four of us had a lovely time, eating and talking and generally catching up.

After dinner, the four of us stopped to get coffee and then walked the plaza for a little while.

Amanda was kind enough to stop and offer to snap a photo of us. We don’t have very many, so it’s always a treat to get a photo opp!

The one above was the glamour shot- but don’t be fooled, we had several “bloopers” along the way.

Funny smiles.

Non-stop laughter.

Blurred faces.

Ya know, we ran the gammit.

Unlike these two love birds, who took two flawless pictures in a row.

What a handsome couple, right?

After we said our goodbyes to Camanda, we had to hop in the car once again- we had a party to attend. But not just any party- an Ugly Christmas Sweater Party!

Shane’s friend (and groomswoman) Jaclyn was throwing the party at her apartment, so we headed that way and stopped in for about an hour.

We played a few games, had some laughs and decided to call it a night. We were pretty beat at this point in the weekend- we’re sort of old.

Sunday morning, we got up and checked out of the hotel before heading into Prairie Village for brunch at The Blue Moose. We met my Aunt Julie there, which was a huge treat for both of us.

The three of us enjoyed all kinds of good food while just relaxing and enjoying each other’s company. It was a delicious brunch, and I absolutely loved seeing my Aunt. She’s a pretty incredible lady.

We got on the road to head home around 1:00pm yesterday, and made it home around 4:00. Of course, we had to stop on the turnpike for some Dunkin Donuts…the trip wouldn’t have been complete without it!

Then last night, we decided last minute to go see the new Stallone/DeNiro movie, Grudge Match.

Guys- I don’t care what the critics say. Go see this movie. It’s awesome.

So there you have it, our weekend in a nutshell. It was busy, but we got to see so mnay wonderful people and spend so much quality time together. It was a wonderful weekend, for sure.

Alrighty, that’ll about do it for me today. Shane and I have a workout date set for tonight- a way to celebrate our 4 and 1/2 year anniversary (that’s actually today) in healthy form!

Have a great Monday night!
