Some Minor Excitements

Hello, and happy Saturday! Shane and I are getting set to go on a little dunner date, but since he isn’t quite here yet (surprise!) I thought I’d go ahead and put together a quick blog post on some minorly exciting things happening here today.   So last night, he and I went to go see Catching Fire at the IMAX. Who ah. It was packed, it was buzzing, I was excited. Screenshot_2013-11-23-15-24-09And as a huge, huge, enormous, massively big fan of the Hunger Games books…I can truthfully say that it was awesome. Very true to the book, good script, good score- the works. 2 thumbs up. (Yep. That’s a screen shot from my phone.) OKAY- GET A LOAD OF THIS BAD BOY. IMG_20131123_152549_183<—THIS is my new toy: a Sharper Image Food Scale.    Guys- I can’t even tell you how excited I am about this thing. I need it for an upcoming “project” of mine, which I will explain, probably tomorrow. 🙂 I also finally bought myself a pomegranate. I love pomegranate seeds, and even though they are a TON of work, they taste way better than the ones you can buy in the little container. I got to the gym around 8:30 this morning, and it was packed. Oof. All of the cardio machines were full, so I headed over to the weights. I trained chest, abs and a little legs (2x this week- holllllla!), followed by 30 minutes of HITT on the treadmill and 10 minutes of HITT on the step mill. I definitely jammed out the ENTIRE time to Britney. Screenshot_2013-11-23-09-39-17 Seriously, great workout song. Great.

 

Okay, so one last thing…Shane and I took our engagement photos back in October.    We ordered our Save the Dates about 2 weeks ago…

A.M. Dates and “Proat-meal”

This morning, I had a date with an old friend.

Unfortunately, I stood my date up.

My bed was just feeling too darn comfy to leave it! And getting up anywhere between the 5am – 6am window can just feel downright horrific some days.

So I gave myself permission to sleep in (I had done all breakfast prep work the night before) and didn’t get up until 7:15. Of course, then I was rushed to get ready, didn’t have time for a cup of coffee and ran out of gas on my way into work.

Oof.

However– like I said, I managed to do most breakfast prep last night, so all I had to do was open up my container once I got to work and stir. Also luckily, there is a coffee pot here at the office and I was able to brew up a whole batch of fresh coffee as soon as I got here this morning.

Hello, gorgeous….

In other news, breakfast this morning came in the form of overnight pumpkin “proatmeal”, complete with half a banana and extra almond milk on top.

—See that massive cup? Shane bought this for me last year. It’s amazing. Oh, and you can definitely double the amount of coffee you see here.

In today’s oats:

-1/2 cup oats

-1/2 cup almond milk

-1 tbs. peanut butter

-1 tbs. agave

-1/4 of a scoop of VCORE vanilla bean protein powder

-1 1/2 tbs. pumpkin puree

Guys- I know they aren’t pretty. But they taste DELICIOUS.

In other news, I’m hoping to head straight to the gym after work today. I have to train arms and shoulders, and since the gym closes early on Fridays (6pm), I planned accordingly and have my handy dandy gym bag all set and ready to go out in the car.

I also have this thing in my head where at some point, I plan on having a pair of workout shoes from every brand. So far, I have Nike, Asics, Reebok and Adidas covered. Next on the horizon- some pr-etty snazzy POLO tennis shoes I found online.

Hopefully I can snag them up before the “free shipping” promise goes away! 😉

Stair Master City

Does anyone else really dislike the name “Stair Master”? It just makes me flash back to the 80s- I really don’t know why? I much prefer the term “step mill”, because that just sounds a little more intense.

Well whether you call it the step mill, the stair master or the super tall escalator looking thing…no matter! I got a KILLER workout to try out on this thing last night.

It’s really nothing ground breaking or fancy, but it was a great workout so I thought it was worth sharing!

I did 4 sets of 10, in 2 minute intervals.

2 minutes at level 6

2 minutes at level 8

2 minutes at level 10

2 minutes at level 12

2 minutes at level 4, taking the “stairs” 2 at a time

I repeated this sequence another 3 times for a total of 40 minutes- then added a 5 minute cool down. It was definitely a sweaty workout, and I plan on repeating it very soon!

What this is meant to be…

Alright- because this IS essentially supposed to be a healthy living blog- and that includes exercise AND food- I figured I should probably fill you guys in on some of what I ate today.

 

And here you have it…an Apple Cinnamon Chobani yogurt. This was my mid-morning snack.

 And since I’m still totally new to this- please forgive the awkward angled photo. I never, ever claimed to be a photographer any good at this whole blog thing.

Good Things Are A’comin

Well, hello hello! How is everyone on this oh-so-fine Thursday afternoon? (Full disclosure, I’m actually writing this on Wednesday over my lunch break…so forgive any misgivings in tense and/or timeline information.)

Can I just tell you, what a journey it’s been even thus far? This is my first post EVER that I will allow go public, on my first big-girl blog with a REAL domain name, that I will actually promote via social media. Ever.

This might seem obvious. You might be thinking “Duh, Meredith.” Or maybe not, “duh” is a little retro.  But this being my first real blog/first real blog post ever is a big thing for me. I’ve wanted to start a blog for a long time, but was always too chicken. I have several that are still floating around out on the inter web somewhere- I can’t remember the names of them, or even which sites they’re on, let alone my username or password to them.  This little thing right here has been about 3 years in the making my friends, and no matter what happens- even if the only people who read this are friends (out of pity), family (out of curiosity),or the future hubs (out of obligation), this is still exciting and still a big deal to me and gosh darn it, I’m going to have fun with it!

For this first post, I thought I would take a second to explain the title of the blog. Because yeah, I know it sounds sorta goofy.

Well- let’s start with Fitbie. No, it isn’t a real word. However, I have referred to myself as a “fitbie” for quite a while now, as I feel it does a good job of describing how I view fitness in relation to who I am as a person. I am not a fitness addict, I am not a fitness competitor, I am CERTAINLY not a fitness model.

I am a fitness enthusiast- it gives me joy. I feel better when I exercise regularly. I like trying new kinds of exercise. “Fitbie” just happened to sound cute, not too serious, happy- but still has “fit” in it, because, well…fitness, to me, is important.

Bride- probably a lot more self explanatory! I’ll be getting married to the love of my life in May of 2014. He proposed last September (2012, not 2013) in a gorgeous surprise that he happened to capture entirely on video. (My man is so smart!)

I’ll most certainly find and post a link to that later on- probably in the next post, or on the Wedding page!
